Mission, Vision & Values

Our foundation.

Mission

The mission of Plainfield UMC is the mission of The United Methodist Church and the same mission Jesus gave his followers, “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

Vision

The vision of Plainfield UMC is to serve the children of Plainfield. This is how we want to serve the community with such impact that the love of God in Jesus Christ is revealed and noticed.

Values

Accepting

We accept others as an expression of the love of God.

He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Matthew 22:37-40 (NRSV)

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

Romans 15:7 (NIV)

Creating Community

This is the way we, at PUMC, experience healthy relationships together.

And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NRSV)

So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

Romans 12:5 (NRSV)

Serving

Meeting others’ needs is an expression of care for Christ.

And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’

Matthew 25:40 (NRSV)
