Spiritual Growth is a Lifelong Commitment
Here at Plainfield United Methodist Church (PUMC), part of our work is to equip people to help make the ways of God tangible in the world. There are 168 hours in a week. Our church service only constitutes about one of them. What are we doing with the other 167? Here you’ll find your next steps. Things that will allow you to seize the hours beyond Sunday worship.
Step One: Attend Meet PUMC
Meet PUMC is a 30-minute orientation designed for newcomers to meet church leadership, learn the congregation's mission and values, and discover ways to get involved.
Next date TBD
Step Two: Join a Small Group
Are you looking to connect with others and grow your faith? The small group experience will help you see your faith story, understand how we live out our Christian faith, and find ways to grow in your faith. There are groups for all ages and stages of life.
Step Three: Membership
When you become a member of PUMC, you promise to faithfully support the congregation’s ministries with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. In return, you will gain an entire community willing to walk beside you in Christian faith.
1. Complete a New Member Information Form
2. Schedule a time to meet with a Pastor
In this meeting, you will sit down one-on-one with a Pastor for a basic overview of what it means to be a member of the United Methodist Church. During the meeting, the pastor will help guide individuals to take the next step in discipleship and become dynamic, engaged followers of Jesus Christ.
3. Attend New Member Sunday
The Worship Team will pick a Sunday to welcome new members. We ask new members to come forward during the service and answer brief questions for membership together.
You can become a member in one of the following ways:
Profession of Faith - This is the initial entrance into membership in the church when one confesses faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior publicly for the first time. If you are not yet baptized, one of our Pastors will be happy to discuss your baptism and church membership with you.
Transfer of Membership - From another United Methodist Church or a Christian church of another denomination. We recognize Baptism from all other Christian churches. We do not require those who have received Christian Baptism in the past to be baptized again.
