Music Ministry

Music can provide you a pathway to express emotions, touch a life, or bring joy or support.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry exists to lead the body of Plainfield United Methodist Church in genuine, life-giving praise and worship and to encourage worship as a lifestyle in the heart of the believer. We believe that participants in the music ministry are called to be servant-leaders whose mission is to glorify God, edify the church, and equip other believers. There are a number of areas in the music ministry where you can use your talents in service to the Lord — Sanctuary Choir, NewDay Praise Band, Handbell Choir, "More Than Conquers" Youth Praise Band, and the Sanctuary Pipe Organ. The following groups have been created to assist you in developing and using your God-given talents.

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir consists of members of PUMC dedicated to choral music. This group sings anthems and leads hymns at the weekly Classic Service, as well as participates in special services and concerts throughout the year. Rehearsing on Thursday evenings, the Sanctuary choir performs a wide variety of music, from classical repertoire to spirituals to jazz and more. The choir meets from August through May, with the opportunity to continue singing in a Summer Choir during June and July. Help us worship and add your voice to our choir!

NewDay Praise Band

The NewDay Praise Band leads worship through music in our NewDay Praise Contemporary Services. Consisting of guitarists, drummers, keyboardists, and singers, the band rehearses on Thursday nights in a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. All are welcome to join!

Handbell Choir

The PUMC Handbell Choir performs in the Classic Sunday Service, providing uplifting and beautiful tones that enhance our weekly worship. The Bell Choir rehearses on Monday evenings in August through May. Additionally, the Bell Choir participates in special services, such as Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve. Join us and ring proudly on Sunday mornings!

“More Than Conquerors” Youth Band

“More Than Conquerors” is a hard working Christian band that rocks on stage and provides great worship sets. A road schedule includes performances for summer camps, youth retreats, and youth group gatherings and worship at other churches. Our busy schedule includes regular performances at PUMC Youth Worship and off-site events. Rehearsals are on Sundays from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Sanctuary Pipe Organ

The pipe organ, built in the PUMC sanctuary, is a four-manual (keyboard) instrument comprised of 51 ranks of pipes. With more than 3,500 pipes in total, the pipe organ is one of the largest instruments in Indiana. In addition to adding considerable new pipe work built just for this organ, the new pipe organ also features repurposed pipes from a 1920s historic pipe organ and Plainfield UMC’s 1970s Schantz pipe organ.
