Coming Classic Worship Series

“In a galaxy far, far away” we encounter the rebellion against the evil Empire, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Yoda, interplanetary travel, and The Force. It’s all part of the larger-than-life epic saga that George Lucas created and called “Star Wars.” The story is so interesting because it takes place on exotic planets light years from Earth. It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen. The saga is so compelling because it contains the basic stuff of life—good and evil in conflict, a quest for identity and meaning, friendship, skills and abilities honed and developed to further a worthy cause, and more.

The locations may be out of this world. The technology is unfathomable. But the characters along with their struggles and strengths, wisdom and blunders remind us of ourselves. Their adventures hold insights and questions for us all—by positive example and through cautionary tales. In coming weeks, this Classic Worship series will explore these lessons as we look at what the Bible has to say about some of these very human realities. We will discover “Universal Purpose: Lessons from a Galaxy Far, Far Away.”
