A native of the rural Midwest, Simon Pick grew up in Remsen, Iowa, where he began his studies in organ at the age of fourteen with Sr. Arnold Staudt, OSF. He graduated with honors from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, with majors in Music and Theology and upon graduation, was awarded the Sr. Joachim Holthaus Outstanding Musician Award. Simon graduated with a master’s degree in Sacred Music at the University of Notre Dame where he was a student of organ under Dr. Craig Cramer and Dr. Douglas Reed and studied conducting with Dr. Nancy Menk. After a year of private study with Dr. Kimberly Marshall, Pick is now studying under the tutelage of Dr. Christopher Young in the doctoral program in organ at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Pick has given solo and collaborative recitals throughout the Midwest and Southwest and has performed with collegiate and graduate performance ensembles as both accompanist and soloist in addition to serving for three years as the artistic director and continuo player for Benedictine Baroque, an ensemble he co-founded in 2012. He has performed with the Phoenix Symphony Chorus, Yavapai Festival Chorus, and was the assistant director and Accompanist for the Phoenix-based chamber ensemble Canticum Novum, a choral ensemble he helped to found. Pick has held various church positions starting his career as organist and choir director at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa, where he founded a sacred choral program that he directed for six years. He would later serve as an organ scholar at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. As a pedagogue, he has held the positions of youth organ instructor at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Gilbert, AZ, and served as a faculty member of the 2018 POE hosted by the Central Arizona chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Simon lives in Bloomington, IN, where in addition to his studies, he enjoys cooking, painting, and being outdoors.
